Jack Sawyers Obituary, Cause of Death – Des Moines Community Mourns Beloved Son, Brother, and Friend at 43
The Des Moines, Iowa, community is mourning the loss of Jack Andrew Sawyers, who passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the age of 43. Remembered for his generosity, humor, and unwavering kindness, Jack leaves behind a legacy of compassion that continues to resonate with his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Born on August 25, 1982, Jack was the son of Steven and Amy (Dorrell) Sawyers. He spent his childhood on the family’s farm west of Winterset along Highway 92 and graduated from Winterset High School in 2001. He later attended Simpson College in Indianola, where he studied journalism before making his home in Des Moines.
Those who knew Jack describe him as a true renaissance man whose interests and talents seemed limitless. He found joy in cooking, gardening, woodworking, the arts, and spending time with the people he loved most. Whether creating something with his hands, preparing a meal, or sharing a laugh, Jack had an extraordinary ability to bring people together and make everyone feel welcome.
Family and friends remember Jack as someone who never met a stranger. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always willing to help anyone in need. His warmth, compassion, and willingness to give of himself left a lasting impression on countless lives. A devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend, Jack was admired for his authenticity and independent spirit. Jack is survived by his parents, Steve (Melodie) Sawyers and Amy Sawyers; his brothers, Bryan Sawyers and Nicholas (Sofia) Sawyers; and his beloved nephew, Levi Devine. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Dorothy Sawyers, and Ronnie and Betty Dorrell.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. A gathering of family and friends, followed by a reception, will take place at 5:30 p.m. at Redeemer Church in Winterset.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Jack’s family for a future designation established in his honor.
